Orioles Get First Win Against Verlander

Sep 25, 2014 4:02 PM

The Orioles beat Justin Verlander and the Tigers 5-2 on Tuesday night, handing Verlander his first loss in 13 starts against the club.

"First couple of innings, everybody knows he throws 92, 93 and he gets his strikes, and works on his pitches," Adam Jones said.

"Fifth, sixth rolls around, you ain't touching him. We were able to get to him early. We were able to make him mad early and got him angry. That's what's cool. It's cool to see that."

Verlander felt like his command wasn't as sharp, and there were a lot of borderline pitches that the Orioles were able to lay off.

"The one that really hurt me, fastball-wise, was the one to Jones," he said. "You know first pitch, he was up there jumping, trying to ambush me first-pitch fastball, and I gave it to him. But it wasn't well-located, it was up and almost middle, outer half, right where he wanted it."

Stanton Hits 99th, 100th HRs In Victory

Sep 23, 2014 2:44 AM

Giancarlo Stanton hit two home runs against the Diamondbacks on Monday, the 99th and 100th blasts of his career.

Stanton struggled mightily in April, batting .227, but since returning from a hamstring injury he has hit .392 with four homers and 10 RBIs.

"He's going up there right now with a ton of confidence," Mike Redmond said. "It's nice to see him like that. Every time he goes up there, you feel like there's a chance he's going to do something big."

Sep 30, 2014 10:09 PM

Max Scherzer struck out 10 batters against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night, improving to 10-0 in the process.

Scherzer became the first pitcher to begin a season 10-0 -- with all decisions coming in starts -- since Clemens went 11-0 for Toronto in 1997, according to STATS.

Scherzer is the first to have at least six strikeouts in his first 14 starts in a season since Martinez did it in 2001 with Boston, STATS said.

"He's at the top of his game pretty much," Jim Leyland said.

Puig Homers Twice In Second Game

Sep 18, 2014 5:29 PM

Yasiel Puig had a nice second game for the Dodgers on Tuesday night.
